Accessibility information for the Roman Baths museum
Registered disabled people and accompanying carers, half
price entry on standard adult and child prices. The Roman
Baths are wheelchair accessible. A lift has been recently installed
to the lower museum areas.

|
Because the Roman Baths are six metres below street level, there
are unfortunately many steps throughout the site. We have recently
installed two lifts and improved the handrails in many places, but
to access the entire site, you will still need to climb some steps.
Please make staff aware that you have limited mobility, and they
will direct you to the most accessible route.

We give every visitor a hand-held audioguide to help you enjoy
your visit. If arthritis or any other limb condition makes it
difficult for you to hold, we can give you an ear-piece or
headphones.

Wheelchair access There is level access
from the Abbey Church Yard entrance to most of the ground floor
areas including the 18th century Pump Room, the Sun
Lounge which overlooks the hot spring in the King’s Bath and the
outside Terrace which overlooks the Great Bath. There is also
level access to the main Roman Baths shop from Stall Street.
Access to the teaching space, mezzanine displays, lower museum,
Great Bath and East Baths is via two DDA compliant lifts. For
safety reasons a maximum of four wheelchair users can access the
lower levels at any one time. An adapted toilet is
normally available close to the Roman Baths entrance.

Visitors with hearing impairments
As of April 2010, we now have a British Sign Language handset
available free of charge. If you are a hearing aid user, you can
benefit from the ‘T’ switch attachment on the audioguide. We can
also provide a printed copy of the audio tour text. A signing guide
may be available to give a tour in British Sign Language. With
advance notice (two weeks is appreciated) it is usually possible to
arrange this.

Visitors with visual
impairments
Visitors with visual impairments will find our displays very
tactile with many stone sculptures and models on open display. We
are happy to arrange object handling sessions for groups with
special needs.
